Expatriation with IMCC Masanga

As a major part of the project we have two medical students stationed in Masanga all year round, in six to seven months at a time. As the Stabilization Centre (SC) is now handed over to the local staff, and we have launched a new project in spring 2011 (see projects), it is still possible to be stationed in these unique working conditions that ensure you responsibility, co-management and wonderful local colleagues.

Dispatch dates

  • January to august (approximately 6-7 months)
  • August to January (approximately 5-6 months)

Deadline for applications is seven months before departure, Please contact us for a more precise date.

A long stay has high priority, as you have a lot of responsibility for the project and really make a difference in one of the world’s poorest countries.

We differ from other projects, as you are not stationed as an intern. You are not just one medical student in a line of many; on the contrary you are expected and welcome. In Masanga they will know your name several weeks before You arrive, they expect you to perform a good job and you will have colleagues that have experienced life at its harshest. You get clinical experience, make Sierra Leonean friends, and you learn to work with the bureaucratic system of Africa, while getting a unique once-in-a lifetime experience.

It is also a unique opportunity to work in a small organization with focus on basic health and development. While stationed with IMCC Masanga you will help with the clinical work at the hospital, teach the local staff and the students at the local nurse aid school, cooperate with health authorities and other local NGOs and travel around Sierra Leone to help the individual health clinics. In other words you will bring health, knowledge and joy directy to the population.
