Activities

IMCC Masanga has a meeting, usually at the beginning of every month. At the meeting we get updates from the project in Sierra Leone – one person from the group is always in contact with the volunteers in Masanga through our own Skype account. We are very aware that it’s important to have time for friendly gatherings when taking the time to be involved in the project, and therefore we sometimes have dinner together after the meetings and we have our own fun Christmas party and other celebrations.

The group is part of IMCC and therefore we participate in the IMCC spring meeting, the general assembly, the IMCC Aarhus monthly meetings and not least the Christmas party. Not all members participate in all the different activities and so there is an opportunity to be more or less involved – all depending on the time and energy each person has.

In 2010 we had a booth at Hammel horse and flea market, where we had a great profit that goes directly to the project in Masanga. We collected “fleas” from family, friends and stores and ended up having a very attractive booth in Hammel – a fun and different weekend!

For three years IMCC Masanga has taught the tropical medicine course for seventh-semester medical students, since the group has great knowledge and experience in the work with malnourished children. We also collect equipment for the hospital in Masanga, sort it and make sure relevant items are shipped to Masanga Hospital.

In the Fall and Winter of 2010 we arranged seminars for members of the group as preparation for the volunteers on their way to Masanga, and for all members to gain more knowledge about some of the problems we encounter during our stays in Masanga. This fall we have been taught in the subjects “Malaria – and differential diagnoses” by Dr. Alex Laursen, Dept. of Infectious Medicine, Skejby Hospital, and “Recognition and handling of risk pregnancies in a developing country” by Dr. Birgitte Bruun Nielsen, Dept. of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Skejby Hospital. By arranging for such instructions, we ensure that the project is continuously developing and the members learn more and get inspired. It is also important for us to pass on this knowledge to new members in the future.

Write us an e-mail if you want to learn more about what we do in the group or want to be a part of it!
